And that's a wrap for another year. Logan BookFest 2025 is done and dusted.
The Ten Penners were in full swing, and I must say, our corner had the most energetic and enthusiastic vibe in the entire hall! We laughed and chatted with people as they approached, wishing everyone a cheerful Merry Christmas. Being the only ones with Christmas decorations and wearing Santa hats or Elf ears, we were impossible to miss. We had such a fun day that we didn't even notice how quickly the time passed. New connections were made, sales were achieved, and everyone had a great time!
Wrapping up the day with a delicious BBQ at a team member's house. What a fantastic way to conclude the day. Thanks to everyone who joined us!

As for my KIDS Paint Party Workshop, it was a hoot, and a complete success! A Fun filled day and lots of buzz. With Plenty of happy little smiles and pride in their artwork, especially leaving with lollipops and bubbles. 😁
Best part was presenting one of the children with her winning prize of our Backyard Beasts & Curious Capers books and more sweets. 😁
Painting is my first love, teaching it to children and adults is the rewarding side of art. Bringing colour and life into others sketches or doodles is the most rewarding of all. After a very busy week of moulding, painting and sculpting her Tree Mail stump the very talented Liv Lorkin ( another of out Ten Penners team) was excited to lead her little freinds in a colourful and creative Postcard Workshop where they could drop their creation into the very special Mail Tree. The children loved every minute spent creating their postcards. More happy little vegimites!

Not forgetting onother of our talented team who had as much fun as her onlookers did. Tenille demonstrated badge making at her table where the children coloured in precut circles and created their own personalised badges. Needless to say this too was a huge hit!

Thank you to the wonderful Carly Been, one of our Penners and a staff member at BOOKS etc Paradise Centre, Surfers Paradise, for helping set up and provide the best venue to introduce our book to the public Saturday 14th October.
We, The Ten Penners, (who are really six) had a wonderful time with book signings, talking to customers and selling our very special children's adventure book. So much TLC went into creating this book for the children, honestly our hearts and souls are in this book!
I myself am overly excited, as you may already know from reading my previous posts, because not only have I illustrated the entire book, I have written three stories in this book being my very first to be published. Making this all the more a tick ✅off that Life List for me. My next goal is to create an entire children's picture book, being a grandma of four under 7 you can understand why I want to follow that path.
It wouldn't be a launch day without some of the team introducing their characters.
Wearing the appropriate costumes like - Floriece the clumsy Witch, Jeremey the-want-to-be Astronaut and Dandelia the Pixie P.I. Came along to join in the fun of the day! Creating some very curious antics and capers of their own with some very curious children watching on.

My very first customers of the day were two beautiful friends that came along to show their support and graciously bought a book each. I am so grateful to all who have bought a book so far, both at the store and pre-sales prior to the release of the book.

It's not possible to stay calm when our New Backyard Beasts & Curious Capers Children's book hits the market as of this week with pre-orders overwhelming us even before we launch the book this Saturday! To say we all so very excited is an understatement.
Illustrating this book was an absolute pleasure especially placing our characters together in an active scene on the front cover. What better way to jump off the page than to get a glimpse of some very curious antics and goings on within the pages of this beautifully written children's book.
Backyard Beasts & Curious Capers is my first, as a published author. Contributing three magical and mystical stories along with all the illustrations, I am thrilled to be sharing all this with you our little readers.
My illustrating process begins quite simply. I'm given the manuscripts from each author and while reading each story my mind very easily captures the vision of the characters. The most difficult part is deciding where to stop creating. There would be an entire book full of illustrations if it was left to me.
Deciding on one or two of the main characters actions has to be enough, and once they are decided upon it's time to start sketching!
I sketch on paper then transfer my work onto iPad using the procreate program. Although I have embraced the digital age I must confess I do miss the hands on feeling and smell of paint.
Each character develops not right away but through a process of research, examples and manipulation of sketches, more sketches and tons of imagination, which I absolutely love. During this development stage there is always the anticipation and fingers crossed, that the author of the stories loves my visions and creations of their beloved characters.
The happy approval from the authors and seeing the characters printed not just on paper but in a book is as exhilarating as it comes.
I am extremally thrilled along with my co-authors' to be presenting this new 'Backyard Beasts & Curious Capers' Book complete with interactive questions, and search for the illustrators initials, (Yes mine!) to the young and young at heart for a fun reading time together. This Children's Adventure Anthology is full of fun, adventure, mystery and magic, all entwined from the imaginations of The Ten Penners, a wonderful collaborative effort from 6 amazing writers and myself. We have had a lot of fun preparing this little gem for you all to enjoy and spread the word. Who knows we may just make it big yet!
This Saturday 21st October, join us The Ten Penners, as we introduce you to our book at our first Book Launch. Books Etc. Paradise Centre, Surfers Paradise from 11.00am to 2.00pm. Meet the authors, buy a book, have it personally signed, join in the activities and enter the colouring competition. We are looking forward to see you all there.
